What a great thing is to now exhale a massive breath of relief. Our destination wedding happened, and we survived all the events that came with it; taking home only memorable stories. Paul and I stayed for a full week in Playa del Carmen, Mexico — half an hour south from Cancun. Let me tell you… it was more beautiful than any picture I crossed on Pinterest. Also, to make things easy for us and our guests, we picked an all-inclusive resort. After searching for many months (seriously hustling went down), we found Paradisus La Esmeralda Resort. IT-WAS-A-DREAM! We were a bit concerned because we did it on the children’s side so my family’s kids can attend the wedding. However, the concerns when away as the resort is simply massive and everyone felt very comfortable on that environment as it did not influenced at all on how relaxed and peaceful the place is.
Destination Wedding Advice
For future couples who desire, or plan to go through a destination wedding, you’ll need to spend some time at the resort previously to the wedding day. Get familiar with everything they offer: locations, breakfast spots, restaurants, entertainment schedule, and of course meet your wedding coordinator and make sure there is plan b,c,d in case things go south — which in our case happened. We had a wonderful wedding coordinator, Sandra, who helped us in every single way and at every moment of panic. We can happily announced our wedding was so much fun.
Can’t Control It All
We couldn’t predict the weather even the morning of. Paul and I ended up switching our reception indoors instead of the pool side due to rain, but we were hopeful that the ceremony will be safely done at the beach… aaaand of course it didn’t! It poured hell on us! So…full on rain during the ceremony at the beach was not in our plans. The good part of it? once you are going through it, it becomes a funny thing, you don’t care about rain AT ALL. We simply loved every minute of it. Our families took it with a grain of salt and enjoyed the pouring while we said our I do’s. As shown below, they even took amazing pictures of us looking soaked and great.
I could go on and on about all the events about my wedding, my the biggest facts about my destination wedding:
- You won’t be able to control everything. Therefore, humor whatever happens and be flexible with your demands.
- The smaller the wedding the better and easier to plan it and execute it will be.
- Make sure to read the small print as resorts have unlimited amounts of fees and restrictions.
- For everything they will offer you, make sure they explicitly state if it will cost you or not
- If weather goes wrong, have a backup plan and don’t get discouraged, it will still be great.
- No one really cares about your center pieces or decoration, they are just happy for you.
Paul & I are lucky to have family that flew all the way to Mexico for this crazy destination wedding. Bad weather and all, they had fun, took our pictures, eat & dance, and the best of all: they enjoyed with us. For that, we are forever grateful. I’ll leave below a few of the shots my family took from their phones which makes them very special while I await for the official ones ;).
